The General Assembly in Leipzig elected its new Board of Directors on a rotating basis. The previous Board, consisting of Thomas Linse (Chairman), Christian Jünemann (Deputy Chairman) and Dr. Klaus Vatter, was unanimously confirmed in office. In addition, Dirk Schulz (Dexion GmbH) was newly elected to the Board and will strengthen the work of the Board. We would like to congratulate the new members and wish them every success in their new tasks.
The VLB invited the President of the European association FEM Racking+Shelving (FEM R+S), Eugen Talmann (front center), to this year's General Assembly in Leipzig, where he provided information on current and planned activities at European level. The VLB (represented here by the board and management) warmly welcomes Mr. Talmann and is pleased about the good cooperation and the intensified contact with the European association.
The intralogistics trade fair LogiMAT was delighted with the huge number of visitors this year. 62,343 trade visitors came to Stuttgart over the three days of the trade fair, 25% more than in the previous year and more than in 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic.
Many members of the VLB were also around again and presented their products and innovations.

In order to further intensify work at European level with the FEM Racking and Shelving (FEM R&S) product group, the VLB has delegated another German representative, Dr. Peter Bastian of BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH, to the board of the European association.
At the FEM R&S General Assembly, Dr. Bastian was unanimously elected to the board by the European delegates.
The VLB is delighted with the election and looks forward to continuing the good and intensive cooperation.
The VLB is supporting the implementation of DIN EN 15512 through its technical working group. As the implementation of this important standard also involves many legal aspects, the work was supported by the professional assistance of the law firm Kopp - Assenmacher & Nusser.
The VLB supports all activities that lead to a high level of safety in the calculation and design of racking systems in Europe.
The member companies of the VLB feel that they are well positioned to implement the new DIN EN 15512.
DIN EN 15512 “Fixed steel shelving systems - Adjustable pallet racking - Principles of static design” is one of the most important standards for the safe design and construction of shelving systems.
In Germany, DIN EN 15512 will be available in June from DIN and Beuth Verlag.
Contrary to usual practice, CEN has defined a coexistence period for DIN EN 15512; in addition to DIN EN 15512:2021-06 (German version EN 15512:2020), the “old” DIN EN 15512:2010-09 (German version EN 15512:2009) can continue to be used in parallel until 31.11.2021. This regulation applies to the entire CEN Europe.

The Lagertechnik Betriebseinrichtung association calls for the lifting of tariffs and import restrictions on steel procurement. Urgent appeal to Federal Economics Minister Altmaier highlights options for stopping the price spiral and safeguarding the livelihoods of manufacturers of warehouse technology and factory equipment.
In view of the increasing shortage of supply quantities and extremely rising material prices in the steel sector, the Hagen-based Lagertechnik Betriebseinrichtung (VLB) association has now made an urgent appeal to Federal Economics Minister Peter Altmaier to relax the import regulations for steel. “The procurement problems with steel are becoming an existential challenge for manufacturers of warehouse technology and factory equipment,” explains VLB Managing Director Olaf Heptner. “Against the backdrop of this tense market situation, the current import restrictions, which make it difficult for our manufacturers to switch to steel from third countries, are the wrong signal.”

Hagen, 10.09.2020
For the first time, the Hagen-based Lagertechnik Betriebseinrichtung (VLB) association is putting a planning assistant for the storage and operating equipment sector online as a web tool - thus digitizing and individualizing the specialist manual “Lagertechnik & Betriebseinrichtung”.
It is considered a standard work for intralogistics planners and organizers: the VLB's specialist manual “Warehouse Technology & Operating Equipment”, which was first published in 1971 and has been continuously updated since then. In line with changing times and technologies, the association has now completely digitized the reference book and put it online as a new type of planning assistant. “The new, digital planning assistant is not a configurator in the sense of a sales-accompanying program,” explains VLB Managing Director Olaf Heptner. “Instead, this planning tool focuses on providing important information about warehouse and factory equipment in a neutral way.”
With this web tool, the VLB provides the commercial sector with basic information on different storage systems. This includes definitions of different storage systems, basic principles for designing these systems and an overview of the relevant standards. Application cases, combined with reference systems and further information, also provide an impression of the performance of various racking systems and operating equipment. For the first time, users now have a powerful tool that provides a complete overview of common logistics systems and factory equipment products from a neutral perspective.
To use it as a planning tool, users simply enter their framework conditions in the planning assistant - and receive an automatically generated selection of suitable shelving systems that are optimally tailored to the respective application. The results can be transferred and output by the user in an “individual specialist manual” as a pdf file according to their selection. “This means that the user ultimately receives a specialist manual again, but one that is now individually tailored to their needs,” summarizes Heptner. “This individual specialist manual can also be regenerated at any time if requirements and business processes change. At the same time, the digital planning assistant is of course regularly updated and adapted to the latest technological developments.”

We wish Mr. Calzolari a good hand and every success in this challenging position.
The Association for Storage Technology and Operating Equipment in Hagen has modernized its appearance and now presents itself in a new, contemporary design.
The association is the center of all activities in the areas of shelving, roller systems and operating equipment with the prospect of new areas in the future.
The center is symbolized by the new black circle in the logo, just as the letters follow the focus on the essentials: VLB will replace the previous lettering.
“Competence and exchange”, the core values of the association, will continue to be at the center of all activities of the association and its members, which is underlined by the new logo.
